Trailblazers: Uniforms

Troop 5 wears the full Boy Scout uniform. It’s often an adjustment for Trailblazers to get used to wearing the uniform, and we ask parents’ help in encouraging their sons to wear the uniform.  The “Uniform” is one of the 8 methods of Boy Scouting - wearing it reinforces the understanding that we are all part of an organization with a common purpose, and it helps to reduce the tendency to make (inappropriate) distinctions among individuals based solely on their clothes.

The uniform is required to be worn to and from campouts.

The uniform consists of:

___ Troop 5 red Neckerchief and BSA slide

___  Belt—olive web with BSA insignia on brass buckle

___  Long pants/shorts—official olive green BSA

___  Socks---official olive colored

___  Shirt---official long or short-sleeve tan shirt with red should loops.

___  Insignias to be sewn on shirt:

Troop 5 Numeral

World Scout Crest Emblem

Northeast Illinois Council Patch

A diagram showing where the insignias should be sewn on the BSA uniform is available—click here to open.

The Troop has “gently used” shirts, shorts, and pants available for $5 each and a packet containing the slide, Troop 5 numeral, and World Crest Emblem for $5.

New items are available at the Scout Store at 2745 Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park or at www.scoutstuff.org.
